Webbed feet that waddle, swinging to and fro,
his iridescent feathers fluffing up,
the smitten drake, excitedly aglow,
elaborately preened and puffing up,
turns loving eyes on his prospective mate
imagining how he could cuddle her.
He quacks soft messages and slows his gait
a bit, so he will not befuddle her.
The lady ducky eyes him drawing near,
an amatory mallard on the prowl,
and blocks his lustful cooing in her ear,
exhorting him to court another fowl:
“Duck out of here! Unwrap those stubby legs!
It isn’t you who has to lay the eggs!”
