The calendar has made a shift –
Perhaps I should review each gift.
A just-delivered-late bouquet
Looked better probably yesterday.
A scarf in someone else’s style
May stay in folds for quite a while.
A wine resembling lemon juice
Could work for common kitchen use.
A perfume far from what I wear
Might serve to freshen bathroom air.
A box of candied calories
Invites re-gifting if I please.
A tin of nuts not to my taste
Will more than likely go to waste.
A gadget too hands-on for me
Can soon be sent to charity.
A book about some-bore-back-when?
No one would read that past page ten.
But still – despite my age I ought
To keep in mind what counts is thought.
