(Based on a true story)

Escaped from my bag, one lone melon
runs off like a fugitive felon.
This fruit has revealed it’s no peach,
for certainly this is a breach
of unwritten yet still-binding treaty
between us and those who aren’t meaty.
All produce is bound to consent:
stay put, not reveal discontent..
But some melons think that our kind
cannot bind them because we’ve no rind.

Soon it will cross my lawn’s border.
I need to restore natural order,
so I must give chase down this slippery slope,
arrest and detain this rogue cantaloupe.
