But face it, most days back in Troy,
there was no tragic Grecian ploy –

how often was there news so dire
that made you preach without a choir?

Really, worse than prophecy,
is seeing possibility:

What if this or why not that,
each day requires a caveat,

or two, or three, a Hydra’s head
that multiplies on going to bed.

Whenever there’s a choice of curse,
to wonder, not to know, is worse –

you really are the lucky one,
knowing all things under the sun,

not always asking of the sky,
What if, why not, why, why, why, why?
