Ring the changes, let the peals
echo over field and town:
Beer Bob Minor, Delights Major
stays and sallies, up and down.
Ring for Jubilee, invasion,
ring for bridal veils and lace.
Not for us a simple, tuneful,
carillon – our pulses race
at mathematical perfection,
Stedman Cinques or Grandsire Triples:
in eastern fen or southern valley
we’re moved by their acoustic ripples.
So we hear the age-old changes,
which don’t alter but remain.
Hearts are warmed by Plain Bob Doubles
echoing down a country lane.
