I recommend the salamander.
Affectionate in disposition,
Good with children, it's a pet

A salamander's needs are few.
It likes to soak in muddy puddles,
Then when that's done it comes to you
In search of somewhat soggy cuddles.
But carefully enjoy the time
You spend in playful interludes.
There's neurotoxin in the slime
A salamander's skin exudes.
