I never loved my ears until
I had to wear a mask.
Though stiff, their flexibility
and mirror-image symmetry
provide all one might ask.

They're handy for the spectacles
and grip your smartphone buds,
they're angled so a facing wind
won't make them look undisciplined
or rattle fancy studs.

The shell-like outer ear assists
in tracing distant sounds,
and when they’re on the ample side
they make one look more dignified
like Charles, or basset hounds.

So don't be tempted to decry
your aural real estate.
Ears stop your head appearing bland
and when pandemics sweep the land
they’ll make your mask look great.
