I often fall asleep at movies, doze
off with a book spread open on my lap.
No, these aren’t signs of age. The traits arose
in childhood. My first passion was to nap.
I’ve tried to solve the puzzle why that was,
but every time, it puts me on the nod.
I found the world harsh. Everybody does,
not everyone makes Morpheus their god.
I woke up long enough to go to school,
to hold a job, to marry, and to thrive.
But ask me how Shane ends, who fought a duel
with Death, who took Cannoli for a drive?
Search me. But soon enough you’ll hear a snore
that says, “We’re not in Kansas anymore.”
