The summer 2024 edition of LUPO is alive with birds, both in and out of competition, such as American robins, blackbirds, dodos, edible fowl, humming birds, owls, parrots, penguins, towhees and woodpeckers. Outside the avian domain there are thoughts on age, air travel, Argentina, art therapy, beach life, beds, bees, birthdays, cheese, Cope (W), Corleone (M), cowboys, cuspidors, ill-aimed osculation, Ireland, opera, oysters, peas, photography, Polyphemos, Scrabble, sleep, Tennessee, and much else besides with one or two slightly serious questions raised very lightly.
The prestidigitatory performers at large in the five assorted Intervals are as follows:
Felicia Nimue Ackerman, Brian Allgar, Damian Balassone, Bruce Bennett, Jerome Betts, Jane Blanchard, Alexander Blustin, Mike R. Burch, Terese Coe, D.A. Cooper, Pat D’Amico, Heather Dubrow, John S. Eustis, Kelly Scott Franklin, Julia Griffin, Max Gutmann, Steven Kent,, Bruce McGuffin, L.A. Mereoie, Mike Mesterton-Gibbons, Alan Millichip, Don Nigroni, Chris O' Carroll, Martin Parker, Tony Peyser, G.B. Pilferidge, Margaret Ann Ruckert, Tom Schmidt and Russel Winick.
Fresh out of their hides, binoculars swinging, are the winners of Competition 65 in the variegated shapes of Marshall Begel, John Cooper, Kelly Scott Franklin, Robin Helweg-Larsen, Alan Millichip, I.V. Neversere, Michael Swan, Liza McAlister Williams and Anthony Young.
A warm welcome is extended to six new voices, Anita Brooke, D.A. Cooper, Frank Joussen, Simon MacCulloch, G.B. Pilferidge and Steven Searcy.
Finally, with thanks to Michitaka Takinoiri for use of the photograph on this page and the usual apologies to those whose work has had to be held over till September, best wishes to all LUPO’s contributors and readers in these unrelentingly difficult times, though at least recent events have for once given both sides of the Atlantic an interest in the Fourth of July.
