We had a leather sofa, brown,
the seat would squeak when we sat down.
Our bathroom – avocado green –
Mum thought it fab, I thought obscene.
Our psychedelic orange drapes
would swirl and swoop in oddball shapes.
Shag carpets in each room and hall,
and anaglypta on each wall.
Wood panelling around the fire
(no fear of Health and Safety ire).
Huge cabinets, displaying trash
that Granny gave in lieu of cash.
My childhood home! Sometimes, at night,
It haunts me – what a ghastly sight!
