Mae Scanlan - Too Late Now, She's Dead and Gone

She sat there, prim and proper soul,
Interpreting my weekly goal.
She taught piano with a vengeance,
Revving up her tonal engines,
Confident I'd be not so-so,
But, instead, a virtuoso.
I grew prickly as a cactus
At the way she made me practice
Nocturnes, études, polonaises;
Took hard work to earn her praises!
Peak performance: that was vital
When it came to my recital.
Decades later, I can say
How much it meant. I love to play.
Miss Watters was my music anchor –
Wish I had some way to thank her.
