I laid my sons in sleeping suits,
they woke in surfing gear.
I fed them gently at my breast,
they raised a pint, said "Cheers."

I laid my daughter in a shawl,
she woke up in a bra.
I helped her climb onto the bus,
she drove back in a car.

At twenty-seven I stepped out,
so proud to be a mum.
I shopped, and went back home
to find that I was sixty-one.
