This morning I said Boo to a goose
And then to several geese several Boos.
A couple of youngsters cycling by
Eyed me with surprise.
So did the geese. One cocked its head
Then opened a pink beak to hiss.
Four others taking its lead
Hissed too and flapped brown wings
Swaying menacingly that way and this.

I stood my ground surprising myself.
A few moments
And they turned disdainfully around
Waddling back to the sludge by the Ouse.

Let that, I told the world, be a warning!
Yes, I said Boo to some geese this morning.
