(I. M.: J. C. Maxwell 1831-79, Scottish poet with a side-line in Physics.)
Will you visit James Clerk Maxwell in his Castle Douglas grave?
Do you understand the insights into physics that he gave?
Now thank the Lord this laird foresaw the warming microwave
and the dipole marches on.
D' ye ken his mathematics? Then you must be mighty smart.
And the table of quaternions, you'll have it off by heart.
Methinks the maestro's brain and mine are truly poles apart
but magnets still hang on.
How did Mr Maxwell come to grasp magnetic flux?
His mastery of vectors must have helped him at the crux
and he'd conquered differentials which the lesser mortal ducks.
His legacy goes on.
