He’d taken a selfie not far from the beach
then flung himself into the Med.
Facebook was silent, no tweets followed on,
and nothing whatever was said.
He’d swum out to sea, half intending to drown,
but he’d quietly deleted his pages.
There wasn’t a note, there wasn’t a corpse,
and nobody missed him for ages.
So when they came home and found he was gone
and people believed he was dead
they held, in his absence, a funeral wake
and buried his smart phone instead.
