The pangolin, the pangolin,
its eyes are small, its tongue is thin
and very, very, very long,
its tail is broad, its claws are strong
Where other creatures just have skin,
it has great scales of keratin.
It’s evolution’s biggest joke,
an aardvark crossed with artichoke
but minus ears. It lives for ants,
it feeds on ants, it dreams of ants
at night. Its life is in the here
and now. It sleeps well, doesn’t fear
it may be trapped and carried off,
or fret about that tickly cough.
