“What you resist not only persists,
 but will grow in size.” – Carl Jung

A notion you were quick to shun
was sprouting boldly in the sun;
before its blossom had begun,
you nipped it in the bud.

Or so you hoped you did, but then
the notion soon emerged again;
you thought the thing was finished when
you crushed it in the mud.

Yet somehow once again it grew,
was squashed again beneath your shoe,
and once again, as if on cue,
it managed to resprout.

And so it went; the stubborn pest
would not be stifled or suppressed,
although you did your level best
to stomp its essence out.

Until at last you realised
the wilful notion you despised
perhaps was being energized
precisely by your wrath.

And just like that, you changed your mind,
and ever since, you’ve felt inclined
to love the notion when you find
it blooming in your path.
