Rumi Morkin: Wishes
Inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson's
short poem "Wishes"
Exotic fruit trees, shaded lawns,
wisteria on the walls,
pink lilacs bordering the drive,
Brugge lace on all my smalls.
White peacocks strutting on the paths,
two gardeners are a must,
three acres for the horses
and four housemaids for the dust.
Porsche nine-eleven, Jaguar (red),
a live-in chauffeur too,
cascades of flowers in the beds
and fountains — just a few.
A luxury kitchen, Michelin chef,
equipment of the best;
a swimming pool, Olympic size,
Greek statues round, recessed.
Long trips abroad on first class flights
to where the "in" crowd goes,
complete new outfits, spring and fall,
best seats at all the shows.
By nature not extravagant
economy's my guide,
one modest wish completes the list:
rich husband by my side.
