This woman and I were schoolmates.
She’s turned out decidedly better.
My reference for this conclusion
Is her punctual Christmas newsletter.
She’s climbing the corporate ladder
And everyone in the know
Says in her chosen career
She will soon be the CEO.
Her home is tidy and dust free.
I have seen it for myself.
When I was alone, I even peeked
At her highest bookcase shelf.
Her children are always polite.
They play “nicely” and are her glory.
Mine have been known to kick and bite —
But that is another story.
She polished her PhD Thesis
While in labor with child number two.
She would have taken the day off
But she had too much to do.
There is just one last thing to mention —
The marathon race that she won.
She planned to be home exactly
When her savory pot roast got done.
She’s forging ahead at warp speed
And so this is where I’ll leave her —
Her annual blooms fade while she’s always stayed
A perennial overachiever.
