John with his Janet and Janet with John.
Shining examples of fine English youth,
models of loyalty, honour and truth --
middle class values now sadly long gone
down History’s plughole with Janet and John.
It is hard to accept that my children have grown,
that those I once read to have kids of their own;
while the children I wished for them only belong
in my yellowing pages of Janet and John...
