(after A. E. Housman)
"The poets have been mysteriously silent on the subject of cheese." (G. K. Chesterton)
Loveliest of cheese, the Bleu de Gex,
High on my list, along with sex,
Of joys in which I still indulge,
Wearing black to hide the bulge.
My threescore years won’t take a chance
On Limburger or Liederkranz;
Please take away the boring brick;
Stilton only makes me sick.
And though I look effete and old,
My sixty springs stand up to mold;
So as I go, it’s all the way,
With Bleu de Gex and Cabernet!
