My stubborn gut prevents me being lean?
I’ve proven I can run for mile on mile,
I’m fitter now than I have ever been.

My weekly outings, though I’m never keen,
have helped improve my cardio. Meanwhile,
my stubborn gut prevents me being lean.

I sweat in gyms on every cruel machine,
each breath a fight against exhausted bile.
I’m fitter now than I have ever been

but I must recognise I’m not a teen,
I’m middle aged. Although it isn’t vile,
my stubborn gut prevents me being lean.

Always on Sunday morning I am seen
parading with a neon runner’s style.
I’m fitter now than I have ever been.

I’m healthy too, no snacking in between
big meals, my workouts linked to self-denial.
My stubborn gut prevents me being lean?
I’m fitter now than I have ever been.
