My friend the poet says
his poetry helps him understand
the many forces
both internal and external
by which he is shaped
On reading his own œuvre,
he sees for the first time
the invisible threads that connect
all of his existence.
Deep down, he realises,
his whole life is driven
by a quest for truth.
This is exciting.
So many things impinge on my own world
outside and inside,
Can I, too, reach such insights
with the help of poetry?
I will write some poems myself,
in the hope of revealing
the invisible threads that link
my inability to understand algebra,
what Susie meant about not cleaning the bath,
who keeps throwing beer cans over my garden wall,
why I like watching tennis,
and whether my indigestion
is caused by takeaway pizza.
I will report back.
