I think it’s the duty
of each one of us
to make it through life
with the minimum fuss
unlike, let’s say, Hitler
or Stalin or Mao
but also great artists
and even highbrow
sages who challenge
the safe status quo
in which most are happy
simply to swallow
the old lies and habits
labelled tradition
(a code word of course
meaning submission).
Skip sinners and savants –
find me a saint
whose wake-up call message
shows greater restraint
since what’s wrong with money
and having some fun
in a world full of sorrow,
while seeking to shun
all those determined
to prod us awake
when consciousness surely
was our first mistake?
